“Diáspora Nordestina” is an original play, in the form of cordel, based on dance, theater, and popular festivities, that tells the story of the migrations of Northeastern peoples that occurred during the 20th century in Brazil. The play works with the narrative genre of storytelling and draws from the source of street theater and the epic theater of Bertolt Brecht.
The entire narrative of the play is permeated by Brazilian popular music, which serves as the thread that drives this story. The dramaturgy is based on Patativa do Assaré, Luiz Gonzaga, Maria Bethânia, Gilberto Gil, Bertolt Brecht, among others.
“Diáspora Nordestina” is a celebration of the popular culture of the Northeast, telling the historical facts of the migrations of this people across Brazil, and how they contributed to the construction of it, in a playful manner, bringing reflection on these historical processes and our society, and rescuing tradition for the current society.
